Gratitude Challenge

Maybe you’ve experienced this dilemma: you know you should be grateful, and you’ve read that the habit of gratitude has some incredible benefits, but you don’t know how to start this habit or when you have started, you get easily distracted.

You’re not alone!

Sometimes we need a little motivation or direction to get us started with a good habit, so I’ve created a gratitude challenge to help you develop your attitude of gratitude.

It is good to give thanks to the LORD And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.

Psalm 92:1

What is a Gratitude Challenge?

A gratitude challenge is simply a way to focus your attention by looking for one thing to thank God for each day. Of course, you’re welcome to thank Him for more, but this will give you some guidance and the consistency to start this habit.

Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name.

Psalm 30:4

How long is this Challenge?

It’s 30 days. Long enough to hopefully form a good habit!

We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks, For Your name is near; Men declare Your wondrous works.

Psalm 75:1

Why should I use this Gratitude Challenge?

It’s easy to fall into a rut of thanking God for the same things every day—our health, our family, our job, etc. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with thanking God for those things. In fact, there’s everything right with thanking Him for those things!

This challenge, though, will help you think outside the box and remember other things—even seemingly random things—to thank God for.

You’ll recall people from your past, like favorite teachers who impacted your life. And you’ll express your thanks for things that improve your life now, like that modern convenience you insist you can’t live without. I mean when was the last time you thanked God for your washer and dryer??

My hope is that this challenge will spark something in you to continue this habit past 30 days. To begin to see every little thing as an opportunity to give thanks.

In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I Thessalonians 5:18

Oh yeah…it’s also God’s will for us to give thanks!

What are some ways to use the Challenge?

You can use this as something you do personally. Each day you pray, thanking God for the item of the day or you can journal about it, explaining why you’re thankful.

You can also complete the challenge with a small group or your family. In fact, this would be a great conversation starter at dinner!

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
